PROFESSIONAL STAFF – Ann Arbor Office
John G. Sposito, CPA
John graduated from the University of Michigan in 1952, served in the U.S. Army and also worked for a large public accounting firm. He joined Curtis and Bailey, Certified Public Accountants in 1955 and received his CPA license in 1958. Curtis and Bailey became Curtis, Bailey, Exelby & Sposito, P.C. in 1960 and John assumed the role of partner in charge of the Ann Arbor office until 1974 when he was named managing partner of the growing firm. John served as director of several corporations and non-profit organizations over the years including Comerica Bank, Ann Arbor and Milliman Newspaper Group. John has extensive experience in the real estate industry and is also a certified third party administrator for union benefit funds. John served his community as board member of the City of Ann Arbor Pension Retirement Board, Treasurer of Construction Innovation Forum and director of the Student Building Program. He is also active in the University of Michigan Club of Ann Arbor, U of M Alumni Association, U of M President's Club, U of M Victors Club, Ann Arbor Lions Club and the International Foundation of Benefits Funds. John is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Michigan Association of CPAs, the Michigan Association of Professions and the Washtenaw County Estate Planning Council.
Henry E. Alvarez, CPA, Managing Principal
Henry has over 20 years of experience in public accounting serving a wide range of clients including steel processing and manufacturing businesses, construction contractors, tool and die shops, retailers, restaurants, not-for-profit organizations, school districts, personal service companies (legal, medical, engineering, architectural), real estate and agribusiness. He has expertise in auditing, accounting, taxation, business consulting and valuation, estate, retirement and financial planning. Henry is a graduate of Wayne State University and a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Michigan Association of CPAs and the Washtenaw County Estate Planning Council. He joined CBES in 1985 and was elected managing principal in 1999. Henry serves his community as a board member of Ann Arbor Commerce Bank, committee member of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, director/officer of several private entities and patient sponsor for the Healing the Children Foundation.
Thomas C. Koziara, CPA, MST
Tom has several years of experience in the tax department of an international accounting firm and also used his tax knowledge working for a private trust company and in private industry. Tom joined CBES in 2005 and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Science in Accounting from Miami University. Tom is a member of the Michigan Association of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs and is the treasurer of an investment club.
James E. Malkowski, Jr., CPA
Jim has worked in public accounting since he graduated from Western Michigan University as an accounting major with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1995. Jim joined CBES in 2005 and is a certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor with years of experience in providing tax, accounting and auditing services to small businesses. Jim is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Michigan Association of CPAs. |

Anthony Willis
Anthony majored in Accounting at Western Michigan University, and graduated in 1997. His primary areas of expertise are working with Non-profit groups, conducting audits, reviews and has worked with a variety of Municipal and Government entities.
PROFESSIONAL STAFF – Professional Management Group
Paul D. Haynes, CHBC, EA
Paul has over 30 years of experience in healthcare management consulting, including practice management, group practice, human resource issues, income tax planning and preparation, accounting, retirement plan design and administration, and compliance issues. Paul is a charter member of the National Association of Healthcare Consultants (www.healthcon.org), and has further distinguished himself with certification in, and as Secretary-Treasurer to, the Institute of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants (www.ichbc.org). He is an Enrolled Agent (EA) before the IRS. Paul is a graduate of Cleary Business College followed by graduate school studies, and is a member of the Independent Accountants Association of Michigan. For over 25 years Paul has served his community with participation and/or board membership in non-profit organizations, including Packard Community Clinic, Fair Housing Center, Our Own Thing Chorale, Ann Arbor Community Center, Guild House, Habitat for Humanity, and active church participation.

Wesley J. Exelby, CPA
Wes has over 30 years of experience in public accounting in the southeast Michigan area, servicing clients in privately held companies, non-profit organizations, agriculture, business and governmental entities. Wes is a graduate of Michigan State University and a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of CPAs. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association and has served on several committees. Wes Exelby is the audit partner for CBES, and is responsible for assuring professional audit standards and requirements are complied with for all of the firm's audit engagements, final review of all audited financial statements and directing the firm's quality control program.
PAUL ALGEE, CPA
Paul earned his degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Eastern Michigan University in 1999. Paul had experience in the field of corporate accounting.
SUPPORT STAFF
Bonnie Padley
Bonnie is our dedicated administrative assistant, receptionist and bookkeeper assisting our firm in maintaining organization and operating efficiency.
Sue Guenther
Sue is an expert in union benefits administration and other employee benefits, and assists in the client accounting department.
Sandy Carter
Sandy has been with CBES since 1976 and is our firm's indispensable office manager, director of human resources and supervisor of our administrative and reception staff.
Christy Diebolt
Christy has over 10 years of service in public accounting, having joined our firm after prior experience with a Big-Four CPA firm. She is a valuable member of the support staff. Her duties include computerized general accounting, payroll, client write-up work, all facets assigned as administrative assistant. For the past six years, she has applied these skills to clientele in the private healthcare environment.
Peggy Most
Peggy has been a staff accountant with our firm since 1974. She has experience in taxation, accounting, auditing and elder care services. Peggy works closely with many farm clients in the area and is also interested in assisting our elderly clients obtain any special services they may require.
Lois Baldus
Lois has also been an accountant with CBES for many years and is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. Lois is experienced in taxation, auditing, accounting and review services. |
